The Coop Code Amendments bill has been approved by the Committee on Cooperatives Development at the House of Representatives and the Senate. In the Senate version of the approved bill, however, the section on savings and credit cooperatives or financial service cooperatives was not included.
We have been advocating for the Coop Code Amendments bill, including the special provisions on savings and credit cooperatives, since the 11th Congress. These provisions would 1) strengthen, mainstream, and protect local cooperatives; 2) strengthen coop self-regulation; 3) strengthen government regulation. The overall intent of the provisions is the creation of a more favorable environment in which cooperatives can further develop and grow.
Let us unite and bring our massive support to the Coop Code Amendments bill, particularly the special provisions on savings and credit cooperatives, to our Senators.
Please download and immediately send to us a signed copy of the attached Cooperative Resolution supporting the Coop Code Amendments bill and the inclusion of the special provisions on savings and credit cooperatives. We will compile and present these to our Senators for consideration in their vote on the bill.
